Earth Hour at Nova

This March, Nova Maldives will join millions around the world in switching off the lights for Earth Hour, and switching on a deeper connection with our blue planet. As Earth Hour celebrates its 20th year, our soulful island retreat becomes a naturally lit sanctuary where stars, candles and the soft glow of the ocean  surround you in gentle light. From 8:30pm to 9:30pm, we will dim and turn off lights across the island, inviting you to slow down, listen to the night and feel how peaceful the world can be when energy use takes a gentle pause. It is a simple gesture that carries a powerful message about climate action and the choices we make every day. At Nova, this hour is more than a symbolic switch off, it is a soulful reminder of the promise we keep to our island home all year round.

One hour to slow down

As Earth Hour begins, Nova settles into a softer rhythm where nature sets the mood. Pathways and shared spaces glow with candlelight while villas feel cosier and the soundtrack of the island becomes waves and quiet conversations. You might wander barefoot along the shoreline, watch the water shimmer in the dark, or simply sit with someone special while the sky slowly fills with more visible stars. With every switch turned off, we honour the energy we use and the fragile beauty of the environment that holds us. It is an invitation to notice how comfortable it feels to live with a little less light and a little more intention.

Aqua Evening with our Marine Biologist Jenna

During Earth Hour you are invited to our Aqua Evening with Jenna, our resident Marine Biologist, who will share stories from beneath the surface of the lagoon. In this gently lit setting you will hear how our reefs are changing and how mindful choices on holiday can support healthier oceans for the wildlife that calls Nova home. To bring the message to life we are creating a special power generating motor system that guests can help to run, providing the energy needed for the projector during the presentation. Every turn of the motor becomes a reminder that energy is precious, and that even playful moments can carry a meaningful impact.
